Word Wall Words
Words are the building blocks of language. In this ELA class students will be immersed in words. I will introduce the words, usually two a day for a week. The students will read the definition on the board, write the definition in their folder, and listen as I give examples of how the word is used. They should then study these words after class in a manner that works best for them. This may be drawing pictures of the words, writing stories using the words, acting the words out or anything else that works best for the student. Quizzes require the students to use the words in context in an ongoing story. Using the words, as opposed to simply learning the definitions, is how the students come to "own" the words. The students will have a total of two weeks to prepare for the quiz.
